TextMail

Built for basic and flip phones

Your email group, delivered as text messages.

GroupMe turned off SMS. Email groups are free, but email does not work on every phone. TextMail gives you a personal email address that turns every group email into a plain text message on your basic phone — no smartphone, no app, no data plan needed.

$10 per 1,000 messages. A message is one SMS segment of 160 characters.

How TextMail works

Three steps and you are done. After that, everything your group emails goes straight to your phone as a text.

1. Create your TextMail account

Sign up with Google or email, then verify your mobile number so we know exactly where to send your texts.

2. Add a credit card

Add a card and $10 gets you 1,000 messages. Auto-renew is on by default so your texts never stop mid-conversation.

3. Share your TextMail address

Give your unique address (like abc123@textmail.us) to your email group admin and ask them to add it to the list.

That's it — every message sent to your email group arrives on your phone as a text.

For Group Admins

Recreate your GroupMe as an email group

GroupMe turned off SMS. Email groups are still free and work great for members with email on their phone — but email does not work on every phone. As the admin, you can rebuild the same group as an email list. Members with smartphones or email stay on the list as-is; members with basic phones can sign up for TextMail and add their personal TextMail address to the group so they get the same messages as texts.

One email group reaches everyone. TextMail members just get their copy as a text message instead of an email.

Google Groups

  1. 1.Go to groups.google.com and create a new group.
  2. 2.Set the group type to "Email list" so every post is sent to all members.
  3. 3.Add your members' email addresses. Ask anyone who wants texts to add their TextMail address instead of their regular email.
G

Groups.io

  1. 1.Visit groups.io and create a new group.
  2. 2.Choose email delivery as the default so messages go to everyone's inbox.
  3. 3.Invite members by email. TextMail users should join with their TextMail address so emails arrive as texts.

Simple, honest pricing

One plan. No monthly fee, no contracts. You only pay for the texts you receive.

  • A “message” is one SMS segment — up to 160 characters.
  • Longer emails are split into multiple 160-character segments.
  • Auto-renew is on by default, so your balance tops up automatically.
  • Turn auto-renew off any time from your account.
